What I See

Photographing the human form has led me on a journey of seemingly endless possibilities. What might seem an easy task on the outset, isn’t that easy at all, as there are many avenues of exploration. It’s all a matter of seeing. One might choose to simply explore the variations of the musculoskeletal system and how light and shadow play off of it. Another approach is to emphasize human feelings of the nude subject such as a function of sensuality and sexuality. Needless to say, there are many ways to explore the human form visually. Whatever one’s artistic goal, this should be communicated with the model so that everyone is on the same path of creative exploration. As a fine art nude photographer, there are several aspects to my approach. Beyond initial concepts and the obvious technical aspects of photography, my primary focus is to allow for careful observation. After all, what I see determines the final outcome. This photograph is from a project with model Jessi June. My intent here was not only to explore the lines and curves of the female form, but to allow for emotive expression to come into play. By communicating this concept to Jessi, I believe our efforts were successful.

I like the contrast between the rigid linear forms in the background and the body’s natural curves.

Thank you for your observation and input. I agree, having that juxtaposition does add visual interest.
